Un - Commonsense

I've always been perplexed by seemingly irrational behavior among many people. Common sense appears to be uncommon among them, and many are prone to accepting explanations based on mysticism or wishful thinking. I've tried to understand what constitutes common sense and why it is not common among people.

Common sense is an inherent knowledge acquired through practice or experience. When it becomes conscious awareness and obvious to common people, it is referred to as common sense. In other words, common sense is nothing but paying attention to the obvious.

But how do we pay attention to the obvious? Is it easy to do so? The truth is, it's not easy to pay heed to the obvious because our subconscious minds are filled with vivid imaginations, fantasies, and intellect that can replace the obvious, making life farcical and even tragic.

Commonsense tends to relate to events within the human experience and hence appears commensurate within the human scale. Most people who lack commonsensical intuition do not focus on the obvious. Focusing on the obvious is a deliberate activity that requires practice.

Life is a series of ordinary events that follow the law of logic and probability. These events are indifferent to our fantasies and require the careful, accurate cerebration of common sense. Ironically, few events are commonly understood by most people since birth. These events are the thinking points that enable anyone to come close to the obvious.

For example, we all know that touching a hot plate will burn our hands, so we avoid touching it. This is a pure common sense. One can acquire this knowledge through personal experience, learning, or by observing others get hurt. But one need not have a deep understanding of the nerve signals and reflexes involved in moving hands away from a hot surface. The logic and probability should support the knowledge. For instance, if you drop a glass, it will fall. Therefore, if you drop anything under similar circumstances, it should fall too. This is common sense without delving into the root cause of it.

However, common sense is not common to all people because people's intellects play a significant role in understanding the obvious. Some people can relate to previous events or make certain assumptions in their minds to understand the obvious easily, while others may have to go through a series of events multiple times before they can pay attention to the obvious. Therefore, common sense is directly related to a person's intellect and is uncommon among people.

Sense-making is the ability or attempt to make sense of ambiguous situations or create situational awareness and understanding in situations of high complexity or uncertainty to make decisions. It is a motivated, continuous effort to understand connections to anticipate their trajectories and act effectively. Once someone achieves the approach of building the intellect of common sense, the learning path starts, and people move to the next level of cognizance. Unfortunately, many people tend to see things the way they want to see them rather than how they are.

In conclusion, knowledge and common sense together make wisdom, but knowledge without common sense becomes nonsense.

What I understood is, Commonsense is un-commonly common, but when a sense becomes uncommon to common person it becomes common sense and common person like me does not understand what is commonsense. when it makes sense it becomes uncommon :)

Really Good Article Sujeet, ignore the above comment.

However, I don't understand why you are puzzled by it.
That common-sense is not so common is a fairly well-known fact.

A small comment that even the intellect at times do not use their commonsense not bcoz it was uncommon but in today's world all of us are so busy doing our daily chores or thinking or worrying about something that at such times the obvious action or commonsense does not turn up.

    enjoy writing.
